Calling All Fashinoista’s! I Need Your Help!

Give me a formal event, a party, a dinner, lunch, any excuse to dress up and wear my flowy dresses and high heels, I’m like a fish in a pond. I LOVE dressing up, and I’m good at it.

BUT

I SUCK at “everyday” chic. I’m having huge problems finding my casual style, since I really don’t do casual. I love glamour, chiffon, silk and sequins, not sneakers t-shirts and denim.

Olivia Palermo

I’m wondering if you could help me find my casual style? Any ideas of how to incorporate glam into mommywood?

Olivia Palermo

When it comes to my style, think Carrie (not SJP) a la season 3-4 in SATC. Lots of colors! NOT trendy (hate anything even remotely related to the 80s), but definitely not classical either. (Olivia Palermo is also pretty chic in  my book :))

Help me out! I’ll be über thankful for links, polyvore sets, comments, ANYTHING!!

xoxo

I would invest in some good everyday staples (that you can then turn up a notch with your beloved color, accessories and sequins), like a good white button-down shirt, extremely tailored trousers (would look great on you) in black and camel. (Yes, camel is a trend, but it's also a timeless classic.) Fun, comfy, knit dresses are great too- and they don't have to be drab. Add a sprinkle of gorgeous shoes, makeup and maybe a necklace - and you're done.

I'm not very good at casual either so I'm probably not going to be any help whatsoever. The whole "working wardrobe" thing I can do. "Going out" I think I can do, but it's so rare these days that I wouldn't swear by it! But casual - practical and stylish? Not so good at that.
Great advice from Belly. I also love my bloggy friend Amanda's blog www.fortynotout.com - she does chic mummy style very well.

u can still rock it - even in Mommyhood - i go with Beyonce's style guise - if show leg cover up top - or if showing up top cover the legs ..

There are so many ways to glam up every day stuff. I rarely wear denim, I actually have only two pairs of jeans.
Skirts with a colorful blouse and a belted cardigan, even with colorful tights. I saw a lot of this in the latest catalog of Anthropologie or recently in Vogue. Try Tweeds and plaids, fun pants(high waisted) Wear hats. And do not forget the great accessories. Jewelry, gloves, a beautiful purse, and I can not emphasize enough shoes! Fabulous flats and boots alike. And a lower heel is always possibly, even in Mommyhood!
PS: Do not forget style is a mindset as well! Do not squeeze yourself in the Mommy corner, we put ourselves in there mainly!

Much love! Victoria

I would still glam it up but in a casual sense but wearing skirts with tall, flat riding boots and a blouse. Also, you can add some glam with accessories like a great bag and statement jewelery! Olivia wears a lot of skinny jeans and ballet flats. I wear a lot of skinny jeans because they always look chic! xx

For casual think skinny jeans, a striped tee, and an over sized cashmere sweater (Theory makes the best ones) pair that with cheeta print flats and you'll be the coolest mama on the block!
Also check out sites like shopbop and net-a-porter, for "looks" inspiration :)
I hope that helps a little <3

I am just the opposite, I fall on my face at the thought of dressing up, but love to shop and wear my everyday clothes for "mommyhood". Its all in the mix for me, with pieces from Tory Burch, JCrew, Vince, Theory,Calypso,DVF, Joie, always age appropriate with great jeans and I am all about the accessories!

I really like clothes from the swedish H&M, The danish OBJECT and mByM. mix and play what ever you like. As long as you feel comfortable and are yourself.

I'm in the same boat! I can dress up for events pretty effortlessly, but my day to day style could use some help ;)

Good luck to you...though from your pictures, I think you're already stylish and gorgeous!

Crystal

Layers and accessories are the key! This way you can have simple (which doesn't have to mean boring) palette to start with and then go all out with the rest. Sparkly shoes, chunky jewelry, scarves...it is all allowed :) xoxo

I'm totally relating to casual...for my its the idea of not wearing heels. Nothing looks as good on me! So jeans without heels just dones't excite me at all! Michelle
