Last week I went to the Tea and Chocolate course I’ve been talking about forever. It’s put together by Palais des Thés and Sebastien Bruno (French Chocolaterie). And I have to say, it definitely lived up to my expectations!
The program was divided in two parts:
- Tea and chocolate
- Chocolate WITH tea as an ingredient
Sebastien held a short lecture about chocolate and the history of chocolate. His experience is nothing short of amazing, with having worked for both chocolate master Ratel in Dieppe and the legendary Peltier in Paris.
Did you know cocoa was a fruit? The bean is in the middle, and when you crack it open, there’s actual chocolate inside! Doesn’t taste much like the chocolate we’re used to, though, very bitter.
We tasted five different types of chocolate, from white to 100% cocoa. We has two different teas with each chocolate, one light/mild and one dark/heavy
Vuong was passionate as always: it’s like wine! Feel the aroma!
Voung, it’s NOT like wine, it’s better! Like TONS better! These courses really have opened a whole new world for me.
Did you know that tea tastes better when you serve it from a teapot? It keeps the heat and aroma. The clay pots actually keeps the flavor as well, so it’s recommended that you only use them for one type of tea.
I have a porcelain pot, and I love it! :)
Part two of the course, tea IN chocolate!
In my hand, I have my favorite tea at the moment, Thé du Hammam, and the seriously BEST chocolate I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. It’s kind of like a liquid marzipan with Thé du Hammam (the same tea I’m drinking). That was totally an out of body experience!
To the left, we have chocolate with Wu Long 7 Argumes, which has 7 types of citrus fruits in it. Definitely very good! To the right we have The des Lords, which is a black tea (earl grey).
After the course we were all super full (eating that much chocolate definitely doesn’t go by unnoticed) and ready to buy every single type of tea in the shop (at least I was! but I’m hopeless, I’ve realized I’m a Théophile!)
The first course I took was a green tea course, and like I said, it’s perfect for a date. For this course, I would recommend that you bring a girlfriend or two. Or three or four! On Friday, I’m going to be visiting Sebastien Bruno to learn some more about how a Chocolaterie works, check out their Christmas decoration and maybe eat a macaroon or two. And definitely more of that marzipan Thé du Hammam chocolate!
What about you?
Are you a THÉOPHILE?
I know I am!
