Gabriela Horvat (32) is famous for her contemporary jewelry. She creates her long necklaces using the art of old wood basketry. I had a talk with her mom Paula Diperro, and she showed me how they do it. It´s hard work - with tiny needles, it´s really impressing. Paula has always worked with her hands – so Gabierla gets a lot inspiration from her mom. They have been working together for almost ten years and make jewelry I´ve never seen quite like this before. It reminds me of Scandinavia, maybe mostly Iceland, with it´s use of wool, silver, silk and different types of natural material. I like the way it´s mixed – silver and wool. And of course it´s all ecological and-or made with recycled material. Design with the idea of conserving nature is important and necessary, and the idea is stronger than ever all over the world.
