base just hit the stores!!! FINALLY!!
It's finally out! And I have to admit that I feel like I just delivered a new baby :) base is Fargerike's inspirational magazine (published twice per year) and it's filled to the rim with wallpapers, fabrics and chic paint colors in a interior design magazine wrapping.
The cover is styled by Christine Hærra and photographed by Sveinung Braathen
My first intro!
This entry belongs to Thomas Sletvold, who's the owner of Fargerike Sletvold. Pretty fantastic, isn't it??
This bedroom features a brand, spanking new color designed by Halvor Bakke
Ready for some fresh summer inspiration?
Best of all, the magazine is FREE if you visit one of Fargerike's 113 stores across the country. If you don't have a Fargerike shop nearby, you can order the magazine by texting base to 2030 (costs NOK 30 for shipping & handling)
Happy Wednesday!!
xx

Stunning Watercolors
I'm in love with the colors of this home located in Glasgow (could you imagine??). The palette is pure perfection, and the fabric wallhanging is totally what pulls the room together.
How do you use colors in your home?
Happy Tuesday!!

The Decorista loves Scandinavian Design
My friend Ashlina writes one of my favorite blogs, the Decorista. She's fun and fearless, and is living the dream in NY. Ashlina is a big fan of both Scandinavian design and fashion, and this colorful post showed some great examples:

Not a Scandinavian home, but Danish Wegner's Wishbone Chair (or Y-chair) is an important part of the decor. It's fresh and colorful, and I love the organic feel of it. (almost like being in a rainforest, isn't it?? LOVE the Art Nouveau inspired chandelier too :))

NY based Norwegian IT-girl, Hanneli Mustaparta, one of the world's best street style/fashion bloggers and US Vogue.com contributor looks stunning in this fantastic outfit.
Happy Sunday!!

An Easter Inspired Outfit
Feeling a little easter inspired today, and realized I haven't done an outfit post in ages! If we weren't going to my mom's for easter egg hunting with the chickies (my two little girls) today, I would totally rock this outfit on a date with the hubby..
What are you doing today? Anything exciting?

A Norwegian Modernist Home
On Saturday, we were at a dinner party / birthday party, and I was seriously blown away by the house! It's a classical modernist home, but with a very clever floor plan, and not to mention color palette.

Recurring colors are white, wood (possible cherry or oak?) and a very soft turquoise. The painting is by a local artist in Norway.

The soft blue is recurring on all five floors of the house, and it really makes a huge impact.

Danish design classics are also squeezed in here and there with great success.
I can promise you one thing, and that's that we're going to see more of this home! :)
xoxo
ps - it's for sale too! You can check out the ad here.

My name is Dagny, and I'm beige.
At least according to IKEA! And I'm not sure if I'm too happy about what they're putting my name on (because it is MY name)..
I mean, I love, love, LOVE colors, and everything named Dagny is... BEIGE.
a beige paneled curtain...
a beige area rug...
a beige pillow... This one is rather pretty actually, but still.. BEIGE...
another beige pillow... Looks kinda frilly and cute, but BEIGE? Seriously?? Imagine how stunning it would have been in Duck Egg Blue or Raspberry Pink? Or Coral? Yummy!
And of course, beige curtains...
SIGH!! DOUBLE SIGH!!
Happy Weekend lovelies!! :)

Chinese Garden Stools - still a HOT decor element!
The Chinese garden stool has been a recurring element in Hollywood Regency inspired interiors in the US for a really long time. Australia was quick to follow with their quirky and colorful style, and my bet is that Scandinavia is next up!
Kirsten Bell's home was a blogger favorite a while back, and it's easy to see why. The colors of the decor has probably evolved from the Chiang Mai Dragon fabric from Schumacher (which has also been a blogger favorite). The teal table lamp, paired with the yellow vase+roses combined with the fresh red cushion takes the neutral room from drab to fab ;)
And I HAVE to say, don't you LOVE the metal covered garden stools?
Like always, I'm attracted to bling... The garden stools add a touch of glamour to the room :)
I did a post on this home about two years ago, and I remembered it vividly. The whole room is a nod towards Hollywood Regency, with the bamboo chair, chinese garden stool, hindu statue and zebra dyed cow hide.
I have to admit that this room is not a favorite of mine, but I like how they've styled the garden stool.
The Chinese garden stools are still pretty expensive in Norway, since you can only get your hands on original, Chinese stools. (they usually cost something between $370-450 (NOK 2000-2500).
ps - can you belive how hot this '70s brass stool is?? I think I need it... If you do too, it's available here.
Love'em or leave'em? I just bought TWO light grey that I got a really good deal on! (by Norwegian standards of course, you can get them for like $20 if you're lucky in the US).
Happy Friday!!

To Monkey or not to Monkey
That's the question. Lately I've been drawn to monkeys. I can think of a million ways to style them, especially as part of a small vignette.
Which one is your favorite?
Do you have a favorite animal statue for smaller vignettes? Do you think the monkey is the new foo dog?

New Headboard!
Yesterday, I made a new headboard for the master bedroom. It took about 20 minutes to make (time spent shopping for materials and fabric NOT included :)), and I'm really happy with the result.
Sorry about the crappy picture, the bedroom was a complete mess, and this was the only angle I could make it look good, lol :)
update: someone's (read: me) has been having a little bit too much fun with hipstamatic, and I'm adding a better picture of what the colors actually look like (this isn't good either, but much better than the first one):
Happy Tuesday!!!
xoxo
The fabric is available from Fargerike
Swoon!
There's just SOMETHING about this light fixture... Love it!

Happy Tuesday!!

From Today's Photoshoot!
Today's photoshoot was with photographer Sturla Bakken in Rikke's freshly painted apartment. The shoot was a success, and we'll be able to show the finished product in about two months time :)
ps - you will DIE when you see the wall color, it's simply amazing!!
xoxo
So True!
Sometimes, we need to not take things so seriously. Today, this is my slogan:
I have a very exciting photoshoot today, and MIGHT be able to show you the results next week! Yay!
xoxo
ps - the slogan is also a way to justify to myself the fact that I bought yet another bikini... Shhh, don't tell the hubby! ;)

Flea Market Finds!
This weekend was the first "flea market" weekend in Oslo, and I went to the local junior high school (ungdomsskole). They usually have a lot of great stuff, and if you're into brass and gold, you can score some great deals.
What I ended up with. I focused on brass (as you can see), and all of this cost me well under $80 (NOK 450)
This little enameled bowl has an intricate pattern with a peacock in the middle. Love both the shape and details!
side view
This brass bowl is going to be on my nightstand (which I bought yesterday!)
These sconces (lampetter) are also going to be in the bedroom, and the shades will most likely get a ribbon trim on the top and bottom :)
Did you get anything this weekend?
xoxo
