SC in NYC: It´s all about brunch, baby!

Sunday clearly is a day everyone seems to be going to brunch. Last Sunday Thomas (hubby) and I wanted to try out a huge favorite in West Village. Pastis is a famous restaurant located in the heart of Meatpacking District, close to all the fancy shops.

We arrived at 3-ish and were told it was a forty-minute wait for a table for two. It was PACKED. Tons of dates, friends hanging out after a good Saturday night out and of course families filled it to the rim inside and outside.

We waited wine in hand at the bar. It´s such a gorgeous place takes me back to Paris in an instant (and a French restaurant in Oslo which I also loooove). I love everything French. French food, French wine, French cheese, French fashion, French cities, French kissing…In general – you get the idea. So Pastis was perfect to that feeling of France in New York. The décor is very old French with run-down brick walls, old fashioned mirrors and just so lovely rustic.

And the food – wow! We had the croque Monsieur and the foie gras with Sancerre. So tasty! Of course a little bit pricy, but excellent and surely worth a visit.

XOXO from New York

Cupcakes, Planning and a Photoshoot

This week has been truly eventful. It started off with an exciting Monday, where I got to talk about wallpapers and area rugs (which I both love :)). These three ridiculously good cupcakes were the perfect dessert:

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday has been all about planning.. And my calendar is starting to look like this:

Tomorrow, we're doing a very fun photoshoot in this gorgeous apartment. The couple living there will probably kill me for posting this unflattering photo (it had just gotten a paint job, that's why it's kind of messy). I have one juicy detail though.. The stylish woman living there is a fellow blogger... Can you guess who??

Happy Thursday!!

SC in New York - here´s my new job!

We´ve got jobs last week - and started as servers for restaurant Smörgås. A chic Scandinavian chain of restaurants scattered around the trendiest areas of NYC - West Village (where I work), Park avenue (where my husband works) and the Financial District.

(Me at the bar in a black t-shirt, talking to our cute Swedish bartender)
The restaurants are famous for it´s Scandinavian cuisine and also the interior - designed by Norwegian Morten Sohlberg who´s the owner and chef. He took the light blue Ramlösa-bottles (which is Swedish sparkling water) and turned them into lamps, which graces all of his restaurant. Also knives and forks are used as accessories for a few lamps. The light yellow is a trademark color and with the romantic windowsills it makes me think of home. My hubby work at Scandinavia House, which has a huge tree right in the middle of the dining area. Quite cool and very touch of Norway. I just love "my" restaurant in West Village, it´s very cool with lots of famous guest and a great crew from all over Europe and Latin-America working there.

Let´s not forget about the food, it´s absolutely delicious! Sooo Norwegian with a few signature dishes from Sweden and Denmark as well. Everything is more or less organic, grown at their ecological Blenheim farm upstate. If you crave salmon, gravlaks or meatballs this is defiantly the place to go. On the weekends the serve up a sexy brunch with fun and fancy cocktails - a must!

It´s been years since I worked as a server, but hopefully I´ll get into it quickly and it´s a lot of fun. You´re more than welcome to come visit me there for some great food and a glass of wine in the sun!

Love and xoxo from New York,

The Ultimate Wardrobe Guide: Thou Shall Never Wear Black

It's just not hot. It makes your skin look grey, and is simply unflattering to 99% of you. Did you know that the right shade of coral will make your skin glow?

Find the colors and nuances that suite your complexion the best, and have fun with mixing and matching! Very few colors look bad together, the biggest mistake is to pair a color with BLACK. (Huge no no!)

Do you have a favorite color??

Happy Weekend!!

Chic or Shit: Horse Light

Animals as a part of our decor has been hot for a whlie. We've all seen the retro girls embracing Bambi, the glam girls are loving owls and elephants and the nature/rustic girls are LOVING antlers (horn). I happen to love monkeys.

This home, is kicking it up a notch, and the Gothenburg based couple decided to plant a FULL sized horse in their living room. What do you think? Stroke of genius or bizarre?

Incredibly stylish or scary?

Let us all know, is it CHIC or is it SHIT??

You KNOW we're über excited to hear what you think!!

Still talking CORAL!

In january 2010, i blogged about my love for coral... Not much has changed since then, and I'm still head over heels. It actually started when i inherited my grandmothers original coral necklace after she passed away several years ago. I guess the color makes me feel close to her :)

Coral comes in many nuances, and if you find the right one for your complexion, it will make you look incredibly fresh :)

Do you have a particular color that you're drawn to?

Happy Saturday!!

Workin on my Angles, Gold & Grey

When taking pictures, I usually prefer having clean angles (90 degrees). I have been challenged to change it up, and I'm giving it a go here... ;) The dining room has gotten a tiny tiny makeover before we're going all out. I've decided I need some major changes. There's something bugging me about the wallpaper, it has to go.

My latest hangup (which seems to NOT be going away anytime soon), is grey combined with gold. I went prop hunting with Hviit the other day, and ended up with these two candle sticks, and a cute little beaten up bowl. I think they look very chic combined with the greige dining room table. :)

Happy Weekend everyone!!

What about you? Feeling fruity??

PS! I'm so happy Camilla is back with us on SC! Every Monday she'll be sharing bits and pieces from her six month stay in New York (of curse from a Scandinavian perspective).

SC in New York, baby!

Hi, Camilla is back again!

We´ve had a couple of months with serious traveling in South America (working with children in Bolivia, trekking A LOT and basically living in our backpacks). But now we´re settled in gorgeous New York – that being in a beautiful apartment in Brooklyn. We´re actually living in the old Norwegian neighborhood, which was kind of a surprise! There´s a Norwegian store on the corner that sells basically all our favorite food from back home. I have to admit that I missed our goat cheese after five months on the go...

This is one of my favorite cities and I´m soooo excited to finally live here and just have a taste of it all - the vibe, the fashion and the of course the food and wine.

(Yes. Bleeker st.)

Me and my husband now staring our lives here, working as servers and of course I´m working as a freelance writer as well.

I´m looking forward to contributing to SC and being their NYCs "correspondent" in the months to come:)

(New York Times on a Sunday. Of course.)

Wish you all the best from NYC:) Maybe I´ll even meet some of you SCs fans in the city?!

A Commercial Dedicated to PINK!

Just the way I like it :) This is the first time I've worked on a production this big, and it was a blast! I mainly worked on finding the right colors and ensuring that the interiors and decor were up to par :)

Christine Hærra was our stylist, and I think she did a great job :)

The voice over is in Norwegian, but it really is all about the colors.

Let me know what you think!!
